Aniruddha Biswas, Rizière, 2026, pigment and casein work showing a fragile rice-field landscape made of dispersed brown traces on a pale green surface.

Rizière

2026

Rizière takes as its starting point the rice paddy landscapes of my hometown in West Bengal, India. The images are perforated, then infused with raw pigments harvested from the French countryside. The landscape is not reproduced with sharp lines; it emerges through deposition, dispersion, and accumulation, in the form of grainy, fragmentary traces.

The series connects two territories: the image’s place of origin and the material’s place of origin. An agricultural landscape of Bengal takes shape from pigments collected in France—not as a faithful reproduction, but as a fragile, partial, and unstable trace of home.
