Rizière

2026

I let pigments collected in France pass through perforated photographs of rice fields in West Bengal.

I perforate photographs of rice-field landscapes and use them as fragile matrices. Raw pigments, mixed with a casein binder I prepare by hand, pass through the openings and settle as granular deposits.

Dense clusters suggest earth, water and foliage; sparse passages dissolve into mist. Small pylons and horizon lines connect the landscape I remember to the place where I am working now.

The image is neither copied nor preserved. It is reconstructed through matter gathered elsewhere, allowing a remembered agricultural landscape to persist as a partial and transformed surface.
