2025

I make these images by taking graphite away.

I begin each drawing by covering the paper uniformly with graphite powder and pencil, then produce the forms by erasing the graphite layer. The source photographs come from my native village in West Bengal, but the landscapes remain at the edge of visibility.

I am not trying to restore the place intact. I use the drawings to give form to absence, silence and the changes that distance introduces into memory.
